On Friday night we helped celebrate the best businesses in Cardiff at the 2016 Cardiff Business Awards. The black tie event kicked off with a champagne reception in the elegant marble rooms of City Hall.

We like to keep things fresh here at EST, and what better way to do that than to add a new face and a new award to our collection?

Did your eyes brighten at the word prosecco and then glaze over at accreditation? We’ll forgive you. All of us here at EST are thrilled to have been recognised as an ACCA gold standard approved employer, especially because we value our own people as much as we value our clients (speaking of which, did you see we recently launched a new HR division?).

An innovative and fast-growing accountancy firm has launched a human resources division to complement the existing business advisory services it offers clients.

EST Accountants and Tax Advisers, based in Cardiff and Bristol, has hired HR professional Kate Matthews as a non-executive director to help develop the new division.

The ‘Old Scheme’.

In 1989, the Childcare Voucher Scheme (also known as CCV or Employer-supported childcare scheme (ESC)) was first introduced by the UK Government to help working parents afford childcare more easily and target those seeking employment but are unable to work due to the high costs of childcare.

EST Accountants and Tax Advisers has appointed Hannah Whitfield as Client Manager after reporting 75% growth over the last 12 months.

Mrs Whitfield is the Cardiff-based firms’ sixth appointment in just over two years and the addition will strengthen the expertise at EST, according to Client Manager Lauren Burt: “Hannah is a fantastic addition to our growing team; her passion for accountancy and ambition to succeed will make her invaluable to our company. Her qualifications, experience and extensive knowledge will ensure that our clients will continue to receive outstanding customer service. ”

We are delighted to announce that we have recently gained the Investors In People accreditation. Companies in about seventy countries around the world use the Investors In People framework, making it recognised around the globe, so we are proud to have joined the ranks of people who have attained this award.

Following on from Lauren’s budget blog, I decided to look at the new Help to Buy ISA scheme, due to start/open on 1st December 2015. This scheme will help first time buyers like myself who are desperate to get onto the property ladder but are finding it difficult in the current climate where house prices are soaring and therefore big deposits are required.

Cardiff based accountancy firm EST Accountants and Tax Advisers has made two appointments as they celebrate two years in business.

Lauren Burt is the firm’s fifth appointment in two years and takes up the role of Client Manager as Emily Morgan joins as Trainee Accountant to take staff numbers to six.

Despite its name, people still debate to this day whether the Jaffa cake is in fact a cake or a biscuit. But, would this be the case if people knew their status would affect their cost?

Named after Jaffa oranges, the Jaffa cake was invented as a small cake by McVities in the 1920s. However, in 1991, the cake/biscuit debate was taken to a VAT tribunal as HMRC argued the cake was more like a chocolate covered biscuit, meaning it should be subject to VAT.

Cardiff based accountancy firm EST Accountants and Tax Advisers has appointed Richard Bourke as their new Junior Client Manager. Mr Bourke is the firm's fourth employee only 18 months after being launched. His role requires him to oversee accounts preparation, VAT returns, payroll and client queries.

Mr Bourke has a broad range of experience; graduating from the University of Aberystwyth with a degree in Accounting which coincided with three years practice experience.
He is a part qualified accountant and will undertake numerous examinations during his time at the firm in order to achieve fully qualified status over the next two years.

Cardiff based accountancy firm EST Accountants and Tax Advisers has expanded its operation and opened an office in the centre of Bristol.

The practice's increased client base in Bristol over the last 18 months has underlined the need for a presence in the city, with the new offices enabling the firm to supply the same high level of service in Bristol as they give their clients in Cardiff.

Accountancy and tax advisor firm EST Accountants & Tax Advisers has chosen to sponsor Whitchurch Hockey Club in Cardiff. This season the sponsorship money was put towards a high level fitness coach to give the players an insight into how professional players train. The sponsorship money has also been invested in a brand new initiative for the club, aiding in the creation of six new satellite clubs.

Cardiff based accountancy firm EST Accountants & Tax Advisers has been confirmed as a sponsor of Ignite Cardiff.

Ignite Cardiff is an evening of fast paced presentations where there is a series of  five minute presentations on a range of topics. The talks are accompanied by a Powerpoint presentation consisting of twenty slides that automatically transition every fifteen seconds. Only text and images are allowed on the slides and self-promotion or plugging of services is prohibited. Other than that, you can be as creative as your talk will allow.

Accountancy firm EST Accountants & Tax Advisers is showing support for Penarth RFC this year with sponsorship of the seaside club. The company's support will benefit all the teams at the club from the Under 7’s right through to the senior team.
